Learning to say "NO" the USA way

How many times have you found yourself regretting a decision or commitment you made because you were either under pressure or did not know how to say NO to someone? Consider learning to say "NO" the USA way.

"USA" in this case would stand for...
 
(U) - UNDERSTAND: If you're going to say NO, say it right away;
(S) - Situation: Explain why you said NO;
(A) - Action: Help with an alternative solution.

Also, saying NO or turning down offers when you are not able to deliver can, at times, validate your integrity, honesty, trust, and leadership when it comes to all the other times you've said YES to someone. You then will be portrayed as a man or woman of his/her word. That helps tremendously in building customer loyalty.
